Patiala, Punjab: A 22-year-old youth was arrested for trying to rape a 13-year-old girl who had gone out of her house to use the washroom in the early hours of Thursday. The girl’s father, who was following her as a precaution, caught the youth red-handed and thrashed him with the help of other villagers.
The incident took place in a village under the Julka police station area of Patiala district around 4:30 am. The accused youth, who lives in the same village, had been stalking the girl for some time. He saw her going out alone and grabbed her mouth and dragged her to the bathroom, where he tried to force himself on her.
The girl’s father, who had noticed his daughter leaving the house, followed her at a distance and saw the youth’s act. He immediately intervened and overpowered the youth. He also raised an alarm and alerted the other villagers, who came to the spot and beat up the youth.
The police were informed and they reached the spot and arrested the accused. A case has been registered against him based on the statements of the girl and her family. The police said that they will also record any other statement that the family wants to give.
