News Patiala: 03 August 2022 The UT administration has been on high alert after dozens of incidents of trees falling in Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Haryana, in the last 20 days. Today, Dharmapal, advisor to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit, held a meeting with the officials of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, Forestry, Horticulture, and various departments and gave orders to prune the trees in the city on time as per the rules.
President of Chandigarh unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Prem Garg said about the incidents of falling trees in the city that the UT administration is not making adequate arrangements to take care of the trees.
The roots of the trees in the city are getting weak and the trees are getting bigger due to a lack of timely pruning. The UT administration should prepare a plan to strengthen the roots of the trees. It may be mentioned that a 16-year-old student Hirakshi died due to a tree falling in Carmel Convent School located in Sector 9 of the city. After that, every second day in the monsoon season, incidents of falling trees are happening somewhere in the city.
