India to ban 54 more Chinese applications: report |
New Delhi: The Indian government is planning to ban 54 more Chinese applications for security reasons. These applications could prove to be a threat to India’s internal security.
According to the report, no official list of many banned apps has been received yet. These are applications like Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Beauty Camera, Equalizer and Bass Booster, Camcard for Salesforce Ant, Iceland 2: Ashes of Time Lite. Also on the list are Viva Video Editor, Tencent X river, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock, Dual Space Lite.
Last year, the Indian government banned WeChat, Weibo, PUBG Mobile, AliExpress, TikTok, and many other Chinese apps.
On November 1, 2020, the Center also issued an order under Section 69A of the IT Act to block access to 43 mobile apps. This action was to protect India’s sovereignty and integrity from harm to India’s defense, state security, and public order. This action was taken based on the inputs from these apps to engage in these activities. Earlier, on June 29, 2020, India blocked access to 59 mobile apps. Then on September 2, 118 more apps were banned under Section 69A of the IT Act.
The ministry also said that a report was shared by the MHA. , these apps are either cloned versions. These include similar functionality, privacy issues, and security threats. As stated by the Ministry in the 267 apps before being blocked by the Center in 2020.
