New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the application of Balwant Singh Rajoana, who received the death sentence, tomorrow. Former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh and Rajoana accused of murdering others have filed a mercy petition citing the 12-year delay in the sentence. According to the list published on the Supreme Court’s website about the hearing of the cases, a special bench of justices BR Gwai, PK Misra and KV Viswanathan will hear the matter further on January 20. During the last hearing, a bench headed by Justice Gwai had given four weeks time to the central government to take a decision on Rajoana’s mercy petition. At that time, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the central government, asked for more time and said that in view of the sensitivity of the matter, more information needs to be obtained from the agencies. – IANS
