Protests by SGPC regarding the demand to stop the screening of the film ‘Emergency’

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee held protests at various places and outside cinemas here today, demanding a ban on the screening of the film ‘Emergency’, made by BJP MP and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. Similarly, there were protests against the film in Bathinda, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.

Protests were held outside cinemas in different shopping malls under the leadership of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee employees, officials and members here this morning. Protesters of Shiromani Committee gathered outside the PVR cinema near the bus stand here holding banners, placards and black flags against the film. Shiromani Committee Secretary Pratap Singh said that a letter was sent to the Chief Minister yesterday to stop the screening of the film. Apart from this, letters were also sent to the Chief Minister through Deputy Commissioners in various districts. He said that an attempt has been made to show Sikh history in a wrong way in this film, against which the Censor Board, Government of India and others were informed earlier. He said that today in Amritsar, demonstrations were held outside PVR Cinema, Tirelium Mall, Alfa Mall and other places and cinemas. He said that screening of this film should be banned in Punjab.

Meanwhile, the manager of PVR Cinema clarified that this movie is not being played in the cinema. The Secretary of the Shiromani Committee said that the management of the cinema has given an assurance that this film will not be played in their cinema.

Pratap Singh said that similarly assurances have been given not to play the film in other places as well. Meanwhile, heavy police force was deployed outside the cinema. The police officer said that police force has been deployed outside the theaters to prevent any untoward incident.
