A Pakistani court today convicted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the £190 million All-Qadir Trust corruption case and sentenced them to 14 and seven years in prison, respectively.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana of the anti-corruption court pronounced the verdict, which was postponed three times due to various reasons. The last time it was adjourned was on January 13. The judge sentenced Khan and his wife to prison in a makeshift court set up in Adiala Jail.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had registered a case against Khan (72), Bibi Bushra (50) and six others in December 2023, accusing them of causing a loss of 190 million pounds (about 50 billion Pakistani rupees) to the national exchequer. was accused of The trial was conducted against Khan and Bibi Bushra as all the other accused, including a property businessman, are out of the country. It is alleged that 50 billion Pakistani rupees diverted to Pakistan by Britain’s National Crime Agency under an agreement with a property businessman was misused. This amount, which was supposed to be the national treasury, was used for the alleged personal gain of the businessman who had helped Bibi and Khan set up a university.

Bibi Bushra, as a trustee of the Al-Qadir Trust, is accused of benefiting from the deal, which includes acquiring 458 kanals of land for the Al-Qadir University in Jhelum. -News-Patiala
