Manipur: Chief Minister Biren Singh apologized for racial violence

Imphal/New Delhi, 31 December

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has apologized for the ethnic violence in the state, in which more than 250 people lost their lives and thousands of people were displaced from their homes. He appealed to all the communities to forget the past mistakes and live together in a peaceful and prosperous state.

Chief Minister Biren Singh said during the New Year’s eve press conference that there has been some peace in the state in the last three-four months and he hopes that the situation will return to normal in the New Year. He said, ‘I apologize for whatever happened in the state. Many people lost their loved ones and many had to leave their homes. I am sorry and I apologize.’ “I would like to appeal to all communities to forget our past mistakes and forgive us and start life afresh in a peaceful manner,” he said.

On the other hand, the Congress today asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot do the same by visiting Manipur. Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Prime Minister Modi is traveling around the world, but avoids going to Manipur. Ramesh said on X, “Why can’t the Prime Minister go to Manipur and do the same thing. They are deliberately refraining from visiting the state from May 4, 2023.” -News-Patiala
