Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today targeted Sarwar for amending the election rules to prevent public inspection of certain electronic documents, accusing it of destroying the institutional integrity of the Election Commission by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. is part of the planned system. Based on the recommendations of the Election Commission, the Union Law Ministry amended Rule 93(2)(a) of the Election Conduct Rules, 1961 to restrict the type of ‘papers’ or documents held for public inspection.

Reacting to this development, Kharge said, “The Modi government’s amendment in the election rules is yet another attack in its planned conspiracy to destroy the institutional integrity of the Election Commission of India.” “Earlier, they removed the Chief Justice from the Election Commission which appoints the Election Commissioners and now they are engaged in withholding election information even after the High Court orders,” it wrote. -News-Patiala
