Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh has dismissed the notice of no-confidence motion against Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar by the opposition India Block. It is to be noted that the opposition alliance had given a notice of no-confidence motion against Dhankhar to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, accusing him of ‘discriminating’ against the opposition while running the affairs of the upper house of the Parliament as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
According to sources, while rejecting this notice, Vice Chairman Harivamsh has said that the notice given by the opposition regarding the resolution to remove Dhankhar from the post is devoid of facts and its purpose is only to gain publicity. The decision by the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha to dismiss the notice has been placed on the table of the Upper House by the Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha.
The opposition had alleged that the Rajya Sabha chairman is behaving like a spokesperson of the government while running the affairs of the house. According to the information, while rejecting the notice, the Deputy Chairman also said that the notice of no-confidence motion against Dhankhar is unreasonable and flawed. Terming it as hastily prepared to insult the dignity of the Vice President, it is therefore rejected. -News-Patiala
