Questions are being raised about Indian opener Abhishek Sharma, who has been consistently unsuccessful in the ICC T20 World Cup. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has said that he does not expect to be benched in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand. He said that this big match will be an opportunity for Abhishek to prove himself and play a big innings. Their poor form continued and they were bowled out for just nine runs in the semi-final against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
Abhishek Sharma also played a slow and disappointing innings in the Super 8 match against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. In the semi-final, Abhishek hit two fours in the first over of Will Jacks, but soon lost his wicket to the English bowlers. “I don’t think the team will keep Abhishek on the bench and I also don’t think he should be kept out. Ahead of the Abhishek Sharma final, India is facing a major selection dilemma. Ishaan Kishan has to replace his favorite opening pair of Abhishek and Sanju Samson. Despite scoring a record 253/7 in the semi-final against England, Harbhajan feels there is still room for improvement in India’s batting. He also hoped that the team will retain the same playing XI that they have fielded after the Super 8 after the loss to South Africa.
Harbhajan said, “There is still room for improvement. There are still high expectations from Abhishek and I hope that Abhishek plays in the final. Since you haven’t changed in the last few matches, you can go ahead and support him like always.”
