M. An apology and an important initiative has come out of the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Ahead of IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Karnataka State Cricket Association have taken a major decision to ensure that those who lost their lives in a tragic accident last year are always remembered.
Let it be known that Royal Challengers Bangalore and Karnataka State Cricket Association have decided that 11 seats in the stadium will remain vacant permanently. These seats will serve as a tribute to the 11 people who lost their lives in the 2025 stampede.
A commemorative plaque will be installed at the entrance to the stadium. Before each match, the names of the victims will be displayed, and a minute’s silence will be observed, in which both participating teams will participate.
On 4 June 2025, a stampede broke out outside the stadium during RCB’s maiden IPL trophy victory celebration, resulting in the death of 11 people. This decision has been taken in view of that incident to ensure that their memory lives on forever.
