OpenAI, the company that makes AI chatbot ChatGPT, is in the headlines these days. In fact, the company had entered into a partnership with the US Department of Defense (now the Department of War), under which the company’s technology could be used by the US government in classified military operations. Angered by this, users started uninstalling the company’s ChatGPT app. To stop this, OpenAI is now giving one month free ChatGPT Plus plan to the users. It is not yet known where such offers are being given, but many users have claimed to have received this offer.
The number of uninstallation of ChatGPT increased by almost 300%
According to media reports, after the news of partnership with the US government, users started uninstalling ChatGPT. By last Saturday this figure had increased to 295 percent. On the other hand, OpenAI’s competitor company Anthropic benefited from this. Anthropic had said that it would not allow its technology to be used for autonomous weapons and mass surveillance on American citizens. After this, the downloads of the company’s Claude chatbot started increasing rapidly. Anthropic is also now increasing features to bring users into its fold.
OpenAI gave clarification
Seeing the increasing resentment and controversy among the users, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has given a clarification. He admitted that the company was hasty in making the deal with the US government. Now the company has changed its partnership and now its technology will not be used to monitor American citizens. Altman said that the company made the mistake of finalizing the deal on Friday itself. This is a very complex issue and needs clarification.
