Julie Rizzitello, a 37-year-old former English teacher at Township High School, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting two students and torturing them. Julie started targeting a student in 2017, when she was in ninth grade. Julie initially gains the student’s trust and gradually takes him under her influence. Day and night, she used to invite the boy to her house on the pretext of studying. She used to talk to him for hours. In 2018, on the student’s birthday, Julie persuaded him to have unprotected sex.
A few days after the incident, Julie told the student she was pregnant. She told him that the baby in her womb was not her husband’s, but hers. Then Julie Rizzitello started having a relationship with the boy. His cruelty did not end there. He convinced the teenage student that the unborn child was his. She claimed that she was not having an affair with her husband, so the timing of the pregnancy coincided perfectly with her meeting with the student.
One day, she suddenly tells the student that she has had an abortion. The revelation left the student emotionally devastated. She suffered years of mental anguish as well as the grief and guilt of losing her child. When the child’s family came to know about her mental condition, a case was registered against the lady teacher.
The court has now pronounced its sentence in this case. At sentencing, the judge strongly condemned Julie’s behavior. The court said that as a teacher, it was her responsibility to protect her students, but she abused her power and victimized them. The judge commented that this grooming behavior leaves victims with deep psychological scars that can take a lifetime to heal.
During the trial, the victims described how the incident destroyed their confidence, relationships and mental health. Julie pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment. After serving her sentence, she will be under parole supervision for life and will be registered with the Sex Offender Registry. The case has become a topic of discussion not only in the United States but around the world, raising serious questions about the safety of students and the behavior of teachers in schools.
