weight There are many types of fasting popular for weight loss. Similarly, these days OMAD i.e. ‘One Meal a Day’ intermittent fasting is becoming increasingly popular. In such a situation, today let us know about this new fasting… and also what is the science behind it?
Question- What is OMAD diet?
answer- OMAD i.e. ‘One Meal a Day’ is a method of intermittent fasting, in which a person consumes all the calories of the day in a single meal (about a 1–2 hour window) and fasts for the remaining 22–23 hours.
Its advantage is that it automatically reduces total calories, which can help in weight loss. For most people, it is recommended to do OMED 1-2 days a week, maximum 3 days.
Question- Does OMAD cause weight loss?
answer- Yes, OMED can cause weight loss, but the reason is calorie deficit, not just one meal.
A study in Frontiers in Psychology found that people who consumed all their calories between 5–7 pm lost slightly more weight and body fat than those who ate three times a day.
However, according to a research by JAMA Network, most of its benefits are related to reducing calories and fasting, and not just to Omed. Also, if protein is reduced and strength training is not done, the risk of muscle loss can also increase.

Question- Is OMAD the best method for weight loss?
answer- No, Omed is not a magical method. If you eat the same calories in three meals, the weight loss result is almost the same. According to a research by the National Library of Science, weight loss depends on reducing calories and not just on OD.
Question- Is it safe for everyone?
answer- Omed is not safe for people of all ages. This can happen for healthy people above 18 years of age, who can tolerate fasting. But pregnant or lactating women, children under 18 years of age, very thin or elderly people, diabetic patients and people suffering from eating disorders should avoid it. Even if someone is taking it, it should be taken only after the advice of a dietitian.
Question- What effect can OMAD have on body and health?
answer- A study by the National Library of Science showed improvements in insulin sensitivity and blood pressure in some people. But its disadvantages are also possible, especially if done wrongly.
Eating too much at once can cause blood sugar spikes. Also, continuously being on OD and not doing strength training can lead to fatigue, dizziness, weakness, mood swings and vitamin-mineral deficiency in the long run.
