Born in Sri Nankana Sahib in 1987, Harcharan Singh, who has now reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, was brought up in an environment of Sikh principles, morals and discipline. His promotion to lieutenant colonel was approved after a rigorous selection board evaluation conducted in late 2025.
Minister for Minority Affairs of Pakistan Punjab Ramesh Singh Arora said that many Christians have served in the Pakistan Army but till date no Hindu or Sikh could reach the position of Lieutenant Colonel Singh. Lt. Col. Harcharan Singh joined the Pakistan Army as a Captain at the age of 20 and was commissioned in the 116th PMA Long Course in October 2007.
