Sunil Gavaskar gifts Jemima Rodrigues a bat shaped guitar: The legendary Sunil Gavaskar kept his promise to Indian women cricketer Jemima Rodrigues and surprised her with a gift. In fact, Gavaskar gifted Jemima a special bat-shaped guitar and even had a music jam session with her. Jemima shared some photos and videos of this special moment with Gavaskar on her Instagram.
Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar gave a gift to the women’s team’s star batsman Jemima Rodrigues, fulfilling his promise during the Women’s World Cup 2025. Gavaskar gifted Jemima a custom bat-shaped guitar and had a music jam session with her. Jemima shared a special post on her Instagram. Sunil Gavaskar presented this custom bat-shaped guitar to Jemima a day before the first match of the Women’s Premier League 2026. The duo also sang “Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Torenge” together.
When India reached the final after winning the semi-final, Gavaskar promised Jemima that if India won the trophy, he would perform a music jam with her. In his usual humorous manner, Gavaskar asked Jemima to open the wooden box and laughingly explained that it was not an “opening bat”. Jemimah mentioned this promise in December 2025 on the Agenda for Today programme. She had smiled and said that she was waiting for ‘Sunil sir”s promise.

When Jemima jokingly asked if it was for playing the bat-shaped guitar or for batting, Gavaskar said she could do both. He also said that Jemima’s batting has the same rhythm and beauty as music. Sharing glimpses of their meeting on Instagram, Jemima wrote, “Sunil sir kept his promise and we bonded with the best bat-guitar. It was a very special moment.”
Jemima also performed brilliantly in the 2025 Women’s World Cup. He scored an unbeaten 127 against Australia in the semi-final, helping India achieve a record target of 339 runs. It was the most successful run chase in a Women’s World Cup knockout match. After this brilliant innings, Gavaskar promised him the Jemima Award. Now, after the international season, Jemima is fully focused on the WPL. This time, she will play the tournament not just as a player but as the captain of Delhi Capitals. She will be responsible for leading Delhi to its maiden title.
