Air India Pilot Detained: An Air India pilot was detained at Canada’s Vancouver airport after he was found unfit for duty, leading to a delay in a Delhi-bound flight. The incident took place on December 23 last year on flight AI186 from Vancouver to Delhi (via Vienna). According to reports, the pilot allegedly smelled of alcohol, prompting Canadian authorities to take action.

According to Air India, a member of the cockpit crew was ejected from the plane just before take-off. Canadian authorities raised concerns about the pilot’s fitness for duty, after which he was taken in for further questioning. As per safety protocol, Air India immediately arranged for a backup pilot, which resulted in the flight being delayed. Flight AI186 departed a few hours behind schedule. Air India apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers and said it was fully cooperating with local authorities.

Air India assured action…

In an official statement, the company said, “In accordance with our safety protocols, any queries regarding the well-being of any crew member are promptly addressed.” The pilot involved has been removed from flight duties pending investigation. The incident has once again raised questions about the safety and accountability of the airline.

Air India reiterated that the company has a zero-tolerance policy for violation of company rules and if the investigation confirms any violation, strict disciplinary action will be taken as per company rules. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is also conducting an independent investigation into the matter, including the pilot’s fitness and compliance with safety protocols.

Air India made it clear that passenger safety is always its top priority. It also said that it has robust systems and procedures to deal with such incidents, which ensure minimum inconvenience to passengers in such situations.
