The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Bumrah has returned to Mumbai for a personal matter. The update also stated that it is not clear whether the fast bowler will be able to join the squad for the rest of the series. The fourth and fifth T20 matches are scheduled to be played on December 17 and 19 in Lucknow and Ahmedabad. “Jasprit Bumrah has returned home due to personal reasons and will not be available for this match. An update on his inclusion in the squad for the rest of the matches will be given soon,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey, Jitesh Sharma (wicketkeeper), Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakraborty have been included in India’s playing XI. Meanwhile, South Africa led by Aidan Markram fielded Quinton de Kock (wicketkeeper), Reza Hendricks, Devald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Donovan Ferreira, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Enrich Noertje, Lungi Ngidi and Otnel Baartman.
