The average monthly data consumption per user in India has increased to 27.5 GB in 2024, which reflects the 19.5 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in the last five years. This information was given in a report released on Thursday.

The report stated that data usage is increasing due to continuous increase in 5G fixed wireless access (FWA), FWA users are now consuming 12 times more data than average mobile data users, this change is due to new services in both residential and commercial areas.

Big disclosure in the report

According to Nokia’s annual mobile broadband index (MBIT), monthly 5G data traffic across the country has increased three times and it will exceed 4G by the first quarter of 2026. The report said that the increase in 5G data consumption is being led by category B and C circles. Data consumption in these circles has increased by 3.4 times and 3.2 times.

The expansion of 5G network in these circles has been a major cause of this growth. 5G data usage in metro circles is now 43 percent of the total mobile broadband data, which was 20 percent in 2023, while 4G data growth is declining. According to the report, India’s 5G device ecosystem is changing rapidly. The number of active 5G devices has doubled in 2024 to 27.1 crores on an annual basis.

Trend will increase in the coming time

The report said that this trend is going to grow in the coming time. In 2025, about 90 percent of the smartphones are going to be capable of 5G. The report said that the capabilities of 5G advanced will act as Aadhaar for change in 6G.
