Taking a tough stance on the issue of over 7.5 lakh outstanding traffic challans in the city, the UT administration has decided to issue notices to motorists who have not paid the outstanding challans five or more times. The notice has asked them to pay their outstanding challans within 15 days. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of their driving license and suspension of their Registration Certificate (RC).
The authorities have raised the issue of non-payment of challans prominently over the years. “Despite repeated reminders and notices, many drivers ignore fines for offenses like speeding, red light violation and dangerous driving,” said Praduman Singh, in-charge of the Registration and Licensing Authority. That notices will be issued to drivers who fail to pay outstanding challans five or more times, requiring them to pay the penalty within 15 days. Failure to comply with the order will result in cancellation of their driving license and suspension of their RC. In addition, vehicles of defaulters will be flagged as ‘not transacted’, which will prevent any transaction related to the vehicle, including ownership transfer, RC renewal, issuance of duplicate RC, pollution certificate and insurance. .
