Parvesh Verma’s comments reflect BJP’s mentality towards Punjabis: Malvinder Kang

Chandigarh, 22 January

AAP Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang has criticized BJP leader Parvesh Verma’s comment about ‘Punjab registered vehicles’ for ‘mentality’ of BJP towards Punjabis. Malwinder Singh Kang, Member of Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib, said that Verma should apologize for ‘disrespecting’ the people of Punjab. Verma had said on Tuesday, “Thousands of vehicles with Punjab registration number roam around in Delhi. Who are the people in these vehicles? Preparations for January 26 (Republic Day) are underway in Delhi. What will they do here that could pose a threat to our security arrangements?” Reacting to Verma’s comments, Kang said such statements showed the BJP’s “disappointment” as the BJP was losing the February 5 assembly elections. is

Kang said, “This shows how much hatred there is for you in the BJP. It shows the mindset of BJP towards Punjabis. Kang said, “You have insulted the entire community. Are Punjabi terrorists? Verma should apologise.” He demanded that the BJP take action against Verma. Kang, chief spokesperson of AAP’s Punjab unit, said that the people of Delhi will teach the BJP a lesson in the upcoming elections. The MP questioned BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa whether he agreed with Verma’s above statement.

Earlier on Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann condemned Verma for the above statement and said that Verma has disrespected Punjabis and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should apologize for this. The 70-member assembly of Delhi will go to polls on February 5 and the results will be announced on February 8. -News-Patiala
