New Delhi, January 7
Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday announced that India is poised to become a country with one billion registered voters, the largest voter base in the world. Speaking at a press conference of the Election Commission of India (ECI) held at the plenary hall of Vigyan Bhavan in the national capital, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, “2024 has been an important year at the global level. Conducted elections in territories, as well as general elections and set many records. These include maximum voter turnout, violence-free elections, record seizure and increased participation of the masses and women.”
The Chief Election Commissioner revealed that India is nearing a historic milestone, saying, “The ongoing voter roll shows that we are crossing 99 crore registered voters. Soon, we will be a nation of one billion voters, the most in the world.” Highlighting the increasing participation of women in the vote, he said that the number of women registered as voters in this SSR (Special Summary Amendment) also stood at 48 crore. will cross This is a very strong indicator of women’s empowerment.
Kumar along with Election Commissioners Gianesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu also announced the dates of the Delhi Assembly elections. It may be noted that the polls will be held in Delhi on February 5, and the results will be announced on February 8. Date of issue of gazette notification is 10 January, last date of filing nominations is 17 January, date of scrutiny of nominations is 18 January. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20. – IANS
