Recognizing the pulse of the country’s voters, former minister Marco Mendicino, who was a favorite of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has announced that he will not contest the next election. Mendicino thanked the voters of Toronto’s Allington Lawrence constituency for the trust they have shown in him, saying he will continue to meet with them, but will not run for office any time soon. He alleged that the reputation and economy of the country has been damaged by the wrong approach adopted by the Canadian government in the war in the Gaza Strip of Israel. Mendicino said that he kept pestering the Prime Minister in this matter, due to which he also had to suffer the wrath of Justin Trudeau. Marko won the constituency in the 2015 election by defeating Tory leader Eve Adam. Last year, Eve Adam said goodbye to the Tory Party and joined the Liberal Party. It is understood that the Liberal Party may make Adam a candidate from here in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Marco’s announcement is seen by political insiders as a sign of the strengthening of an emerging anti-Trudeau faction within the Liberal Party. It is also learned that a meeting has been called today by a frustrated group of party MPs, the agenda of which includes a discussion on what to do if Trudeau does not have Mustafi as leader. Justin Trudeau, who went on vacation after the winter session of Parliament, is expected to return to his office by January 6.
