12 Naxalites Killed: 12 Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Thursday. A senior police officer said that the encounter started around 9 am in the forests of South Bijapur when a joint team of security forces was on an anti-Naxal operation.
He said that there was intermittent firing till evening. The officer said, “According to preliminary information, 12 Naxalites were killed in the encounter. The search operation in the area is still going on.” He said that there was no loss to the security forces.
Due to this, 26 Naxalites have been killed in various encounters in the state so far this month. Five Maoists, including two women, were killed in an encounter with security forces on January 12 in Madid police station area of Bijapur district. Last year, security forces killed 219 Naxalites in various encounters in the state.
Two commandos injured due to IED explosion
Bijapur: Two commandos of the Cobra unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured today due to the explosion of an IED planted by Naxalites in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. A senior police officer said that the accident took place in the early hours of the morning in the area under Basaguda police station.
According to preliminary information, the security personnel came in contact with the pressure IED in Bedhyani. This caused an explosion and two jawans were injured. -News-Patiala
