The poet’s religion in front of the audience

A session focused on ‘Song’ was conducted on the fourth day of the five-day ‘Poetry Workshop’ in Punjab Sahitya Akademi, Chandigarh. During this time, the poets faced the audience. The main speaker Dr. Praveen Kumar said that the song comes with a single emotion and the intensity of the emotion is what makes the song. Aman Punjabi and Jaspal Firdausi talked about old and contemporary songs. Pritam Rupal said that many songs are sung but are not preserved in any writing. The music is becoming dominant over the song. Prof. Dilbagh spoke about the deterioration in the language. Poet Harvinder expressed his concern about the song being left behind. Darshan Tiwana sang his song ‘Aasan te Aamdhan da Koi Diwa Hi Jaga Deo’ and Labh Singh Lahli sang ‘Sirhind Di Diwar’. Gurjodh Kaur sang the song ‘Umaran da Lam Penda’, Sudha Mehta sang ‘Ammarie’ and Dhyan Singh Kahlon sang ‘Jag Te Na Koi Tera Sani’. Poet Surjit Suman said ‘I don’t understand colors, people change color in a moment’ and Dr. Surinder Gill made the audience dance by singing the song. Pawandeep Chauhan and Simranjit Grewal also played well. Dharam Kameana demonstrated his unique singing and said that the poet should keep the place and function in mind while writing. He also talked about the structure and texture of the song. President of the session Dr. Labh Singh Khiva said that the song will never end. His vocabulary should change with time.
