The family of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has immersed his ashes in the river Yamuna near Majnu Ka Tila Gurdwara today according to Sikh customs. Singh’s family collected his ashes from Nigambodh Ghat this morning and took them to the ‘Asth Ghat’ and immersed them in the river Yamuna. On this occasion, Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur and all three daughters Upinder Singh, Daman Singh and Amrit Singh were also present.
The family will now hold Akhand Path on January 1 at their official residence 3 Motilal Nehru Marg as per Sikh customs. Bhog, final prayer and kirtan ceremony will be held on January 3 at Gurdwara Rakabganj near the Parliamentary Complex. Singh passed away on December 26 at the age of 92 in AIIMS Delhi. He had been struggling with age-related disorders for some time. Eminent personalities from the country and abroad attended the last rites at Nigambodh Ghat here on Saturday. -News-Patiala
