Bills related to ‘One Country, One Election’ will be presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday by the central government. The government has listed two bills in this regard. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will present the Constitutional (129th Amendment) Bill and Union Laws Amendment Bill in the Lower House. The Union Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday approved the ‘one country, one election’ reform. According to the Centre, this law will not only streamline the election process but also reduce the financial and administrative burden associated with holding multiple elections at different times. However, some have argued that holding joint elections may raise various constitutional challenges. -News-Patiala
