Patiala, August 1, 2023: District and Sessions Judge Rupinderjit Chahal conducted a surprise inspection of three jails in Patiala on the guidelines of NALSA and Punjab Legal Services Authority. The jails inspected were Central Jail Patiala, New District Jail, Nabha, and Open Air Jail, Nabha.
During the inspection, Judge Chahal interacted with the prisoners and inquired about their problems and complaints. She also instructed the jail superintendents and other officials to pay special attention to the health and medical facilities of the prisoners. She also gave detailed information to the prisoners about their legal rights and plea bargaining.
In addition, Judge Chahal distributed eyeglasses to the needy prisoners at Open Air Jail, Nabha, so that they would not face any problems in reading and writing. She said that reading and writing would help to change the minds and thinking of the prisoners, which would help them to become law-abiding citizens after they were released from prison.
This inspection by Judge Chahal is a welcome step towards ensuring that the rights of prisoners are protected and that they are treated with dignity and respect. It is also a reminder that the judicial system is committed to providing justice to all, regardless of their circumstances.
