Taking action against shopkeepers who did not pay property tax, 8 shops were sealed on Ghagga Road in the presence of Duty Magistrate Naib Tehsildar Satguru Singh. Karj Sadhak Officer Barjinder Singh said that the self-property tax imposed by these shopkeepers in 2013 was imposed by the then government. The tax was not paid by the shop owners. He said that these shopkeepers owe tax of lakhs of rupees.
To fill this up, notices were sent to the shopkeepers to pay the tax amount by the municipal council for several months through its legal process, but no action was taken on the notices sent by the shopkeepers. Due to this, they are forced to close their shops. He said that notices were issued to 18 shopkeepers out of which 10 shopkeepers have paid the tax.
