News Patiala: Draupadi Murmu (64), India’s 15th President-elect, will also be India’s first post-independence President. She will take oath on July 25. Murmu, who eschews glamor and hype, is a deep practitioner of the meditation techniques of the Brahma Kumaris.

Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958. She was born into a simple family. The family lived in Baidaposi village in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. His father’s name was Biranchi Narayan Tudu. Both his grandfather and father were the heads of his village.

She married Shyam Charan Murmu. She had two sons and a daughter. Unfortunately, both sons and their husbands died at three different times. His daughter is married and lives in Bhubaneswar.

Draupadi Murmu started her professional career as a teacher. After this, she entered politics.

Draupadi Murmu started her political career in 1997 by winning the councilor election of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat.

She has served as the Vice President of the Scheduled Tribes Front of the BJP. She has also been a member of the national executive of BJP’s tribal front.

Draupadi Murmu won and became MLA twice on a BJP ticket from the Rairangpur seat in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha in 2000 and 2009. Draupadi Murmu was made Minister in the Department of Commerce, Transport and later in the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources between 2000 and 2004 in Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal and BJP coalition government in Odisha.

Draupadi Murmu was appointed as the 9th Governor of Jharkhand in May 2015. She replaced Syed Ahmed. Draupadi Murmu was administered the oath of office by the then Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Virinder Singh.

The title of becoming the first woman governor of Jharkhand also went to Draupadi Murmu. Along with this, she is also the first tribal to become the governor of an Indian state.

Draupadi Murmu filed her nomination on 24 June 2022, in her nomination Prime Minister Modi became the proposer and Rajnath Singh became the seconder.
