News Patiala June 29, 2022: Cybercriminals misuse the picture of Punjab Police Director General Viresh Kumar Bhawra. The thugs created a WhatsApp ID with a picture of the DGP and sent messages to the deputy commissioners of several districts.
Following the revelation of the case, the Punjab Police has issued an alert across the state that if anyone receives a message on WhatsApp with a picture of the DGP, the Cyber Crime Cell should be informed.

As per the information received, some Deputy Commissioners of the state had received messages from mobile number + 91-74369-06364 which had a picture of Punjab DGP VK Bhawra. It is learned that money was also demanded from the criminals in these messages but the police department is yet to confirm this. When the Deputy Commissioners who received the message spoke to the DGP, it became clear that it was a fraud.
The number from which the WhatsApp messages have been sent has a picture of the DGP and the name Viresh Kumar Bhawra. After reading the message, the officers spoke to the DGP and he clarified that the number from which the messages were sent was not his number.
