Through the mobile app ‘Know Your Candidate’ launched by the Election Commission of India, voters will now be able to know all the details related to Sangrur by-election candidates or candidates contesting in any state Lok Sabha constituency.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Malerkotla Mr. Sanyam Agarwal urged the residents of the district to download this application and said that this app was designed to provide wide publicity and maximum awareness about the criminal background of the contesting candidate. Has been done to ensure transparent elections.
He said that it was mandatory for the contesting candidates to record their criminal background in the nomination papers at the time of filing nomination papers. He said that at the time of digitization the Returning Officer would have to click on the yes or no check box of the candidate regarding the criminal background and scan and upload the documents submitted by the candidate at the time of nomination. He said the returning officers would ensure that the candidate’s criminal background documents were correct.
