RG Kar Case: The High Court will hear the doctor’s family, the CBI accused before taking a decision

An appeal has been filed by the West Bengal government claiming invalidity of the sentence passed by the trial court in the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case. In this regard, the Kolkata High Court said on Wednesday that it will hear the CBI, the victim’s family and the accused.

The High Court said that the matter will be heard on Monday. The CBI contested the state’s right to file an appeal in the case, claiming that it was the prosecuting agency and had the right to prefer the appeal on the ground of invalidity of the conviction.

A Sealdah court on Monday sentenced Roy to life imprisonment till death for the rape and murder of a doctor while on duty on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

A division bench headed by Justice Debanshu Basak said it would hear the CBI, the victim’s family and the accused through their lawyers before deciding on the state government’s appeal. News-Patiala
