Canada: Justin Trudeau announced his resignation

Toronto, January 6

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (53) announced his resignation as the leader of the ruling Liberal Party on Monday and asked the party to elect a new leader. Addressing the media outside his official residence, Trudeau said he would remain in office until the party chooses his replacement. He has assured to accept the Governor General’s request to suspend Parliament till March 24. Trudeau said then The new leader of the party will also be elected. First, the session of the Canadian Parliament was to start from January 27

It is clear that there have been speculations about Trudeau’s resignation for the past several days. The pressure on Trudeau to resign was increasing due to the tension within the Liberal Party and his declining reputation. Trudeau made it clear that he cannot be a suitable replacement for the leadership of the party in the upcoming elections. Trudeau became the Prime Minister of Canada in November 2015 and won two elections after that.
