War on Drugs: A New Beginning in the New Year

The government is asking for people’s cooperation to end the scourge of drugs. In this series, the panchayat of village Mananwala clan has passed a resolution and decided to boycott the people who sell, buy and consume drugs in the village. A resolution has been unanimously passed by the Panchayat of village Mananwala Kalan under Verka Block of Halka Attari on the occasion of New Year. The resolution is signed by village sarpanch Satnam Singh Lala, village panchayat members Navrup Singh, Ranjit Singh, Harjit Kaur, Rajwinder Kaur and Atinder Pal Singh.

There is a population of more than four thousand in this village, which is adjacent to the city on the Amritsar-Jalandhar GT road. The village panchayat has undertaken to make the village drug free on the first day of the year 2025. Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Mananwala Kalan Satnam Singh Lala said that the panchayat has unanimously passed a resolution regarding this, apart from taking action against people selling drugs, buying drugs and drug addicts in the village, they will be socially boycotted.

Former Prime Minister late Dr. Paying homage to Manmohan Singh, the village panchayat decided to name the sports stadium of the village after Dr. Manmohan Singh. Through a resolution, the aim has been set to educate boys and girls from poor families who are good in studies for the civil services examinations by the Panchayat and with the support of village donors. It has been decided to give 3100 rupees as FD to the girls of poor families and to plant a sapling by that family. The timing of DJ playing during the program in the village has been fixed till 11 pm and if anyone violates it, it has been decided to impose fine against him.

Sukhraj Singh Randhawa, the prominent leader of the village, said that efforts are being made by the village to eliminate the scourge of drugs from the village, which is commendable. He said that those who sell, buy and do drugs in the village will be identified and primarily they will be explained to stop drugs. If they do not cooperate, their names will be made public. Boards will be put up in this regard in the village and if necessary, a hunger strike will also be conducted regarding the action against drugs. He has sought cooperation from the government and administration in this matter.

Villagers Jaipal Singh, Hardeep Singh, Bibi Lakhwinder Kaur said that the trend of drugs is increasing in the village, which needs to be curbed and this is a good decision of the panchayat. Hardeep Singh informed that a member of his family has also fallen under the influence of drugs. In order to save the young generation of the village, the entire village needs to work together in this regard.
