Thousands of commuters stranded as 3200 buses go off roads

Union leaders to meet Transport Minister today

Patiala, Punjab: A large number of buses across the state of Punjab have been affected due to a strike called by the Punjab Roadways Panbus/PRTC Contract Workers Union. Thousands of commuters are facing hardships as a result of the strike, which has led to the jamming of 3200 buses across the state.

The union workers are demanding regularization of their jobs, salaries at par with regularized employees. An end to outsourcing new recruitments. They are also protesting against the poor condition of buses and tires. The reinstatement of workers who were terminated earlier.

The union leaders have met with Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar in Chandigarh today to discuss their demands. If no solution is found in the meeting, the union has warned that it will intensify its protest.

In the meantime, commuters are facing hardships as they struggle to find alternative means of transportation. Some have resorted to traveling in private buses, which are charging higher fares. Others have had to cancel their travel plans altogether.

The state government has appealed to the union workers to call off their strike and resume bus services. The government has also assured the workers that their demands will be considered .
