Uttarakhand Summer and winter holiday: Winter and summer vacations will now be equal in schools across the state.
It may be noted that the number of summer and winter vacations in Uttarakhand was earlier determined on the basis of geographical conditions. Now, all schools will have 16 days of vacation each in summer and winter.
At present, schools in altitudes above 5,000 meters have 37 days of vacation in winter and 11 days in summer. Summer vacation in low altitude areas is 35 days and winter vacation is 13 days. Summer vacations will now be from June 15 to June 30 and winter vacations from January 1 to January 16. This will reduce the 48 days of long holidays by 16 days, resulting in only 32 days of holidays.
Director of Secondary Education Dr. According to Mukul Kumar Sati, schools will have 200 days of schooling per year as per the new schedule under the National Education Policy. Currently only 184 days are available for schooling. Suggestions have been sought from the districts, and only after that the proposal will be sent to the government. Meanwhile, there is opposition to this proposal.
Children in the hilly areas of the state will be the most affected by the cut in holidays. It is worth noting that the hilly regions of the state experience extreme cold after Diwali. Currently, schools have winter vacation from the last week of December to 1st February. The coldest months begin in the second half of January. The month of January has the highest rainfall and snowfall. This year too, rain and snowfall started in the state on January 23 and continued till the beginning of February. It is very challenging to get to school amidst extreme cold and snowfall. There is also a risk of accidents due to rain and snow.
The annual timetable issued by the Education Department in Uttarakhand provides a total of 251 working days for schools. In addition to 30 days for examination and evaluation, 10 days without bags, 11 days for holidays like calamity, Kwanvar Mela are reserved, so 200 days are left for studies in schools. There is anger among teachers and parents over reducing holidays in schools and changing the holiday system. Plains parents are in favor of a month off in summer. They say that there is severe heat during June. Plains parents are in favor of a month off in winter.
