New Delhi: Zimbabwe pulled off the biggest upset of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, beating Australia by 23 runs. This is the second time in the history of the T20 World Cup that Zimbabwe have defeated Australia. The last time Zimbabwe beat Australia was in 2007 in a thrilling match. This was the second time that Zimbabwe had written history by defeating Australia.
In this match played in Colombo, Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe scored 169 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, batting first. In reply, despite a half-century from Matthew Renshaw, the Kangaroos managed just 146 runs in 19.2 overs. Thus, Zimbabwe performed brilliantly without experienced players.
Chasing a target of 170 runs, the Aussies easily succumbed to Zimbabwe’s bowling. Zimbabwe’s fastest bowler Blessing Muzarabani took 4 wickets for 17 runs in his four over spell. He was also selected player of the match for this bowling.
Apart from Muzarabani, Brad Evans also excelled for Zimbabwe. Brad Evans took 3 wickets for just 23 runs in 4 overs for Zimbabwe in the match. Also, Wellington Masakadza and Ryan Burrell picked up one wicket each.
