An Indian woman and her three relatives were shot dead in a domestic dispute in the US state of Georgia. The three children hid in a closet to escape the violence. Officials said that the attacker was none other than the woman’s husband.
An Indian woman and her three relatives were shot dead in a domestic dispute in the US state of Georgia. The three children hid in a closet to escape the violence. Officials said that the attacker was none other than the woman’s husband. The incident happened Friday morning at a home in Lawrenceville, near Atlanta. The Indian consulate in Atlanta confirmed that an Indian national was among the victims and said the suspected attacker had been arrested. The Indian Consulate expressed condolences and said it was extending all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
The mission posted on X (formerly X), which said, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting incident involving an alleged family dispute, in which an Indian national was among the victims. The suspected assailant has been arrested, and all possible support is being extended to the bereaved family.” Local media identified the suspect as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar of Atlanta. According to Gwinnett County Police, the victims include Vijay Kumar’s wife, Meen Dogra (43), Gaurav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chandra (37) and Harish Chandra (38).
Police said they received a 911 call from a home on Brook Ivy Court around 2:30 a.m. local time. Upon arrival, police found four adults dead inside the home with fatal gunshot wounds. Three children were also present at the time, investigators said. The children hid in a closet to protect themselves, and one of them called emergency services, prompting the police to arrive within minutes. The children were not injured and were later placed in the care of a family member. A case has been registered against the accused under several serious sections. These include aggravated assault, felony murder, intentional homicide and cruelty to children. Currently, the investigation of the matter is going on.
