According to sources in news agency ANI, Kohli and Rohit, who have retired from Tests and T20Is, may be placed in the ‘B’ category for the first time in more than a decade. The proposal tabled by the Ajit Agarkar-led select committee recommends converting contracts into only three categories – A, B and C – instead of the existing four-tier system. According to sources, the highest fee in the A+ category was ₹7 crore. Apart from Rohit and Virat, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were also included in this category.
In the 2024–25 central contract announced in April 2025, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were placed in the top tier, bracket A+. Mohammad Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Mohammad Shami, and Rishabh Pant have been included in Grade A. Suryakumar Yadav, Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashaswi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer have been included in Grade B. Grade C had 19 players, most of whom play only one format. In which the names of Varun Chakraborty, Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Akash Deep, Sarfraz Khan, Tilak Verma, Harshit Rana, Ravi Bishnoi, Ishan Kishan, Prasid Krishna, Rinku Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Rajat Patidar, Mukesh Kumar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel and Shivam Dubey.
