Kendriya Sanskrit University combines traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern medical education. This medical course is proving to be a boon for those students who want to avoid expensive coaching and NEET preparation and directly pursue their goals. To get a degree in this medical course, you should study for 7.5 years after 10th standard. After this, you can practice as a doctor. With a BAMS degree, you may also have the opportunity to become a government doctor.
Central Sanskrit University has started an integrated course called Ayurveda Gurukulam. After passing 10th standard, students can take admission in Central Sanskrit University or related institutes.
First two years: It is equivalent to Intermediate. It also teaches basic science subjects (PCB – Physics, Chemistry, Biology) along with Sanskrit.
Next 5.5 years: After this, students can directly take admission in BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) course. This course consists of 4.5 years of academic study and 1 year of internship.
Under the existing education policy and regulations of specialized Sanskrit universities, specific provisions are made regarding the requirement of NEET for certain integrated courses in Ayurveda. It acts as a ‘bridge course’ for students with a Sanskrit background, teaching them both traditional Ayurvedic texts and modern anatomy.
Duration and Eligibility of Medical Course
- It takes a total of 7.5 years to complete this medical course after 10th standard.
- Eligibility: Students must have passed 10th standard.
- Knowledge of Sanskrit: The original scriptures of Ayurveda are in Sanskrit. Therefore, special attention is given to Sanskrit language in this course.
- Doctorate: After completing 7.5 years, students are called ‘Ayurvedcharya’ and are licensed to practice as doctors.
