RTE Admission 2026-27: Free education in private schools is now clear for children from economically weaker and backward classes in Uttar Pradesh. Under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, the admission process for 25 per cent seats in private unaided schools for the academic session 2026-27 will begin from February 2. Under this scheme, children will get an opportunity to study in private schools free of charge. The entire admission process will be completed in three phases.

Applications will be accepted in three phases.

The first phase of applications under RTE will be accepted from February 2 to February 16. The second phase will be accepted from February 21 to March 7. The third and final phase will be open from March 12 to March 25. Under this scheme, admission will be given in pre-primary classes (Nursery, LKG, UKG) and first class.

School allotment will be through lottery

After the application process is completed, children will be allotted schools through a lottery system. The first round of the lottery will be held on February 18, the second round on March 9 and the third round on March 29. After the lottery, the primary education authorities will issue orders to the respective private schools for the admission of the selected children.

Enrollment must be completed by April 11

The Education Department has directed that all children selected in the lottery should be admitted by April 11. Based on the total number of primary school seats in all recognized private unaided schools in each district, at least 25 percent of the seats under RTE shall be mandatorily filled.

Applications will be submitted through online portal only

Applications under RTE will be accepted online only. Parents have to apply through the official portal – www.rte25.upsdc.gov.in. Applications will be accepted for admission to about 600,000 seats in about 68,000 private schools in the state. Last year, 3.37 lakh applications were received under RTE, out of which 2.54 lakh applications were approved and 1.85 lakh seats were allotted. Of these, about 1.41 lakh children were admitted to private schools.

Age limit for admission

An age limit has also been prescribed for children eligible for admission under RTE.

– Nursery: 3 to 4 years

– LKG: 4 to 5 years

– UKG: 5 to 6 years

– Class 1: 6 to 7 years

Age of children will be calculated from 1st April, 2026.
