The gang rape of a 15-year-old Sikh girl in Hounslow, a suburb west of London, has shocked the entire Sikh community. It is alleged that the girl was kidnapped, locked in a flat and gang-raped by five or six men for several days.

The incident took place around January 12-13. According to media reports, the minor girl was abducted by Vargla. She was held captive in the flat of a 34-year-old man of Pakistani origin, where he and his accomplices gang-raped her. This incident caused outrage in the Sikh community. On January 13, around 200 to 300 Sikhs gathered outside the accused’s flat and staged a massive protest.

Why is the Sikh community angry with the police?

A video of the protest went viral on social media, showing protesters shouting slogans while police stood guard at the house of the accused. This further fueled Sikh anger. Protesters remained there for several hours and demanded the release of the girl. Members of the Sikh community claimed that they had informed the police, but no action was taken. Finally, they intervened and saved the girl.

Wires connected to the grooming gang!

The girl is now safe, but the incident has sparked widespread outrage in the Sikh community. Community members say it is a case of a “grooming gang”, where young girls are tricked and sexually abused. There have been several similar cases in Britain, mainly involving people of Pakistani origin.

Over the past two decades, there have been several major cases of grooming gangs in Britain. Most of the perpetrators were of British-Pakistani origin, targeting underage girls, particularly from the Sikh and Hindu communities. A 2014 report revealed that thousands of girls were sexually abused. Sikh organizations say that religious bias is also involved in these cases. After being trapped, the girls are pressured to convert. The case in Hounslow appears to follow a similar pattern.

Indian government is also serious about this incident

The Government of India has also taken this matter very seriously. Top government sources said it was a “very serious case of child abuse” that required an immediate police investigation and victim assistance. “This pattern of organized exploitation must be stopped without fear or favour. Pakistan needs to identify and shame those responsible for this serious crime,” a source said.
