According to the Times of India report, this device is linked to Aadhaar and UPI, due to which the money transaction is done immediately and safely. The user will just have to place their thumb on the device, after which the identity will be confirmed with the Aadhaar enabled payment system and then the money will be transferred from the bank to the bank through UPI.
In this process neither the QR code needs to be scanned nor the smartphone. This is the reason that thumbpay can be useful everywhere from small shopkeepers to big stores.
The company’s founder Pulkit Ahuja says that India has laid a strong digital foundation like Aadhaar and UPI in the last decade and thumbpay is the best use of these techniques. It has a certified fingerprint scanner which reduces the possibility of fraud. It also has a small camera and UV Sterilization System.
The special thing is that this device gives a voice like UPI Soundbox and tells whether the payment was successful or not. Apart from this, it can also work easily on 4G, Wi-Fi and Lorawan networks, so it is possible to use it in far-flung areas.
The company has kept the price of this device less than Rs 2,000 so that it can be adopted in small traders and rural areas as well. This battery -powered device works even when there is no electricity and can be used by a person with a bank account connected with any Aadhaar without registration. Its pilot test has been completed and now after getting approval from UIDAI and NPCI, it will be launched in the market with the help of banks and fintech companies.
This technique can prove to be a boon especially for those who do not use smartphones or wallets. Elderly, daily wage laborers and people of rural areas will be able to easily pay through this device. According to Pulkit Ahuja, Thumbpay’s aim is to “bring UPI’s strength to every person’s thumb.” This step will further strengthen the direction of Digital India not only in cities but also in villages and towns.
