Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Farooq Abdullah today surprised the devotees by singing a hymn dedicated to Mata Sheranwali. The video of him singing the bhajan has gone viral on social media. Farooq Abdullah, along with singers and children, sang the hymn “Tune mujhe calla Sheranwaliye, main aya, main aya sheranwaliye” during a bhajan program at an ashram in Katra. His program attracted everyone’s attention. Abdullah supported the people’s protest against the ropeway project associated with the Mata Vaishnu Devi Shrine in Katra. He said that the Shrine Board should avoid such actions, which create problems for the local people. Addressing the local people, he said, “You showed courage and resisted it bravely. They have now understood that power lies in the hands of the people, not the government.” Abdullah said that the people have the power to build and destroy the government and this is the reason that now the administration is ready to discuss the ropeway project with the people. He said that the main teachings of all religions are the same, but people often use religion for their own interests. -News-Patiala
