Vandalize Ambedkar’s Statue In Amritsar: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann strongly condemned the desecration of Ambedkar’s statue in Amritsar and assured strict action against the culprits. In a post on X on Monday, CM Mann said that no one will be spared and strict action will be taken.
On the evening of January 26, a person vandalized the idol on Heritage Street near the Harmandir Sahib complex. Soon after a video in this regard went viral, he was arrested. According to the police, the accused Akashdeep Singh belongs to Scheduled Caste. The accused used a hammer to deface the statue and burnt the stone-engraved constitution book in front of the statue by pouring incendiary material.
The police say that the reasons behind the incident are yet to be known. Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered and the accused has been arrested. Further investigation is underway.
CM Mann said that no one will be allowed to break the brotherhood and unity of Punjab. Members of Dalit organizations on Monday called for an Amritsar bandh to protest the vandalism of BR Ambedkar’s statue. They have demanded strict action from the police against the arrested accused. IANS
