Punjab News: Desh Bhagat University (Desh Bhagat University) Mandi Gobindgarh hosted a grand celebration on the occasion of Maghi in the campus, in which students, faculty and special guests participated in the festival with joy and traditional enthusiasm.
Jill Koo Martin, President of the University of North America (University of North America – UONA) and Kirit Ushmi, Director of Outreach of UONA, attended the event as chief guests.
Chancellor of Deshabhagat University Dr. Jora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur shed light on the historical significance of this day. Dr. Jora Singh Neo said that Maghi which is known as Makar Sankranti in different parts of the country is an important festival which is celebrated with enthusiasm in Punjab and northern states.
The Chief Guest Jill Coo Martin and Director Kirit Oshmi actively participated in the traditional Bhangra and Giddha giving a lively and joyful touch to the festivities, which made the event a memorable one. The program featured mesmerizing performances of Bhangra and Gidhe.
The students also performed melodious renditions of classic folk songs which added color to the atmosphere of the festival. Vice President of the University Dr. Harsh Sadavarthy thanked the guests and the audience. He emphasized that such cultural celebrations play an important role in strengthening community ties and preserving the region’s rich heritage for future generations.
