Google Maps Assam Police went astray in Nagaland due to Google Maps

A 16-member team of Assam Police had to give up due to wrong guidance of Google Maps. A team of Assam Police, misguided, went to Mokokchung district of Nagaland. Seeing the modern weapons, the local people attacked the police team and kept them captive all night. This police team went to arrest the accused. On getting the information about the situation, the Jorhat Police immediately contacted the SP of Mokokchung, who sent a team and rescued the Assam Police personnel. After this, the local people realized that it was the Assam Police team. They released the injured five members of the team. “They kept the remaining 11 persons in their custody for the whole night,” the official said. They were released in the morning, after which they reached Jorhat.”

A senior officer of Assam Police said that this incident happened on Tuesday night. A team of Jorhat District Police conducted a raid to nab one of the accused. The official said, “It was a tea plantation area, which was being shown in Assam on Google Maps. Although it was actually within Nagaland. The team entered Nagaland due to misguidance and misdirection on GPS.” The officer said that when the locals saw the Assam Police team with modern weapons, they took the miscreant into custody. The officer said, ” Out of the 16-member police team, only three were wearing uniform while the rest were in plain clothes. Due to this, the local people were misunderstood.
