At least eight people were killed and 10 others injured when a truck fell into a 50-meter-deep ditch near here early on Wednesday, a police official said. All the victims were fruit vendors starting from Savanur and going towards Yelapura Mela to sell fruits. Superintendent of Police M Narayan said that the victims were traveling on the Savanur-Hubli road when the accident took place in the forest area.
Narayan told News-Patiala that around 5.30 am, the truck driver swerved to the extreme left while trying to overtake another vehicle and fell into a ditch about 50 meters deep. He said that there is no safety wall around the road due to which the accident took place. He said that the injured have been admitted to KIMS Hospital in Hubli. -News-Patiala
