Several children were killed in a stampede during a school holiday fair in southwestern Nigeria today. The local governor gave this information.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makindo said the stampede took place at Basorun Islamic High School in the state. He said that security forces have been deployed in view of the incident.
He said, “We express our sympathy and grief to the parents whose happiness suddenly turned to grief.” The Nigerian Emergency Services said it had deployed a team to the scene to assist the victims. The injured children were taken to local hospitals and parents have been asked to look for the missing children in the hospitals. – Ap
